GreyList Trace Limited is pleased to introduce our latest key personnel.

  • John Bowman: Director of Operations;
  • Steve Ashman: Strategic Law Enforcement Consultant;
  • Barry Clarke: Operations Manager – Law Enforcement Division.

They are all representing GreyList Trace at the Offshore Alert Conference in London, 2nd and 3rd December 2024.

John Bowman

Director of Operations

John Bowman

John Bowman is a career law enforcement and intelligence professional with 32 years’ experience serving in the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) intelligence and operations directorate, Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), the National Crime Squad and the London Metropolitan Police Service.

Since 2022, John has performed the role of law enforcement advisor for GreyList Trace Limited. As a specialist law enforcement consultant, he has led the expansion of GLT into the public / law enforcement sector.

John previously served as an International Liaison Officer to the Eastern Caribbean. He was recognised and awarded by the UK and US for his successful leadership in the management of international operations.

John also served as the NCA International Source Authorising officer, providing strategic guidance and management of source handlers.

John served as an intelligence manager for the National Crime Squad and SOCA, devising and implementing the confidential intelligence handling unit concept, which was adopted as a national best practice methodology for the NCA.

John previously served as Detective Inspector on the Metropolitan Police Murder Command investigating numerous murders within London.

Mr. Bowman provides tactical oversight and leadership for all GreyList Trace services and products to our clients throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

Steve Ashman

Steve Ashman

Steve Ashman is a retired Chief Constable. He began his policing career in London in 1987 and worked in some of the most challenging areas in UK policing in a career spanning 30 years and three different forces.

He spent over 8 years as a chief officer culminating in his appointment as Chief Constable of Northumbria Police, the 6th largest force in England and Wales.

He led one of the largest manhunts in UK policing history and successfully led the prosecution of several hundred offenders for sexual exploitation of vulnerable women and girls in the largest ever operation of its kind.

He has worked extensively overseas as a serving officer and as a consultant in retirement in the Caribbean, Middle East, Africa and Europe.

He owns a private company delivering training and assessment services to UK police forces and is a lay member of the Royal College of Surgeons’ invited review team.

Barry Clarke

Barry Clarke

Barry recently joined the GLT team bringing a wealth of law enforcement operational and intelligence experience.

Barry worked in UK law enforcement for 38 years. He started his career in the mid-1980s with HM Customs & Excise Investigation, focused on major drugs and money laundering investigations.

In 2006 he joined SOCA (Serious Organised Crime Agency) and was posted to Miami as the Operations Manager for North America. He worked closely with law enforcement and intelligence agencies across the Americas.

On returning to the UK, he managed a number of teams at HQ working globally to tackle complex international crime and threats.

Barry was then appointed as the Caribbean Regional Manager for the National Crime Agency (NCA) and spent 5 years based at the British High Commission in Barbados. Barry had the drive and vision to create the Regional Fusion Centre which brought together partners at a local, regional and international level to share intelligence and resources against common threats.

On returning to the UK, Barry worked as a senior manager at the NCA National Intelligence Hub, leading many regional and national intelligence teams. Barry has spent his whole career promoting joint intelligence sharing and co-operation. He remains passionate about utilising intelligence and technology to assist global law enforcement in protecting the public.
